The Honeymoon - Hawaii (The Big Island)
Volcano Village
Our lodging on the Big Island was at the Hale Ohia cottages in the village of Volcano. Cool and rainy, the area didn't feel anything like one would imagine Hawaii to feel like. We even had a fireplace in our room which we used. The village had only a general store and a few restarants, one of which served very good Thai food. Go figure. The reason we chose this location, besides adding a bit of variety to our trip, was because it was only one mile outside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which was our main destination on the Big Island. Also, much to Jamie's delight, the Volcano Winery was also located near the park entrance. Though it doesn't even come close to the Austrailian wineries we visited earlier in the year, it was still fun to stop by and sample the wines. Many of the Hawaiian wines don't come from grapes, but other fruits and plants native to Hawaii.
