Our third day at Antarctica was all about penguins. We got up early from our campsite to return to the ship at 6am. After breakfast we were back on a zodiac for a tour around the icebergs near Useful Island. Eventually we landed at the island where we walked through a large colony of gentoo penguins. We did a short hike to the island summit to see a smaller colony of chinstrap penguins.
We returned to ship which sailed to Damoy point. From there we explored another colony of gentoo penguins. While there we also hiked up to a small abandoned landing strip which was maintained by the British in the 1970s and 80s. After the hike we returned to a zodiac for yet another tour with sightings of icebergs, seals and penguins. By this point I felt I had got my money's worth from the trip, but there was one more busy day to go.
