Our second day at Antarctica started with a kayak trip in Fournier Bay. It was a beautiful sunny day which made for a very pleasant paddle. We saw icebergs, seals and many humpback whales. Even the guides were amazed by the number of whales and they didn't want to return to the ship. The kayaking was probably the best of the trip. We eventually had to return, but after a lunch break we took another helicopter trip for some brief sightseeing. We didn't land this time, but there were plenty of icebergs, mountains and endless glaciers to see.
We returned for dinner, but our day was not over. We packed up and boarded a zodiac for an overnight stay on the snow in the middle of a gentoo penguin colony. The penguins were noisy and smelly, but we got used to it, mostly. Yet again we saw humpback whales off the shore from the campsite. We slept in bivy sacks which were warm, but I still got a bit cold during the night.
