This road trip was a little different from the other road trips since it was thrown together in two months. There was no camping so we took the Audi Q7 rather than the trusty Odyssey. Despite being almost as big as the Odyssey the Audi had far less storage space which made things a bit cramped even without all the camping gear we normally bring. Just before the trip I signed up for a Audi Connect trial which made the car to act as a hot spot. This allowed for us to stay connected to the internet as long as we were near a city, which was nice. The music options were better in the Audi and the girls liked having the additional charging ports for their numerous devices.
The trip covered over 4200 miles. Gas prices were at a record high at the time, but it didn't seem too costly especially compared to the high airline ticket prices.
Vivian caught COVID at the end of Disneyland and Lily caught is soon afterward. We were fortunate to not have it impact us much as we had down time to quarantine. By the end of the quarantine we were able to visit Arizona national parks since they were nearly free of people due to the summer heat.
The family reunion was fun, but many people were missing. Also the high temperatures at St. George reduced our desire to do things outside, which was the point of going down there.
This may be the last of our big road trips as a family. We've hit just about every national park within driving distance (except maybe Colorado) and the girls will soon be heading off to college which will complicate plans. We were fortunate to get this trip in, especially considering it was unplanned.
