Back in 2003 Jamie and I hiked to Rachel Lake which was nice, but bug filled. This year I returned with my own Rachel along with Matt and Vanessa. The trail started with a gentle gain while off and on following a creek with the occasional waterfall. The elevation gain increased significantly during the last mile. During this section the trail became less defined and required some route finding. We made it up without getting lost, but I don't think we took the same route down. We eventually made it to the lake and found a nice spot on the shore to take a break. Surprisingly there were no bugs and we were able to enjoy the lake in peace. It was a beautiful warm summer day combined with scenic lake made for a wonderful destination.
