Our trip originally was to start in Colorado, visit the state four national parks, visit family in Fort Collins and finish with two national parks in Wyoming. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic we could have continued with the plan, but decided to shorten the trip to just Wyoming to limit our exposure.
We drove two days to reach the town of Jackson which is just outside the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park. The lodging there was twice as expensive as other towns, but we got a great spot at Antler Inn which was in the center of town. All the shops and restaurants were no more than a block or two from our door. The western themed town was nice to walk through, but we didn’t feel too safe with the summer crowds. It was the only time we ate indoors at a restaurant during the pandemic.
During the trip it became clear people were not taking the pandemic seriously and that the United States was in deep trouble. We tried our best to be safe by wearing our masks, staying away from people, sanitizing our rooms and sanitizing ourselves frequently. We made it through the trip without catching anything, but there was always a risk due to others, whom I called spreaders, who were not following safety guidelines. I’m happy we got a chance to get out and travel, but given how seriously we’ve been taking the pandemic, it was probably not the best decision.
