When we finished our road trip back in 2016 we soon started planning for our next trip. The goal was to stop at the California national parks we hadn't yet visited, but we also wanted to return to Zion. It was decided that Zion would be the first stop of our three week adventure. Like before, we stayed at Zion Lodge which had views of red rock cliffs and the lush landscape surrounding the Virgin river. A few weeks prior to our visit flash floods had destroyed some of the popular trails, including the one to Angels Landing. This didn't affect our plans much and there were many other options to choose from.
We returned to the Narrows to hike along the river through a slot canyon. Lily was a bit nervous after seeing flash flood warnings so she and Jamie didn't venture as far up the canyon. However Rachel, Vivian and I hiked deeper into the canyon. We also did a few new hikes including the drippy Weeping Rock trail and the extremely hot Watchman trail. It was 104F on the Watchman so we didn't get far. I've found the family gets a bit grouchy when hiking in 100+ degree weather.
On our way out of the park we hiked the Canyon Overlook trail which partially traversed along some cliffs to an impressive view of Zion Valley. It was an interesting hike as long as you didn't mind the exposure (Lily did).
