It's interesting comparing Lassen Volcanic National Park to our own Mount Saint Helens. It shows how the landscape eventually recovers after a massive eruption. Mount Lassen erupted 65 years before the St. Helens eruption. Without exploring Lassen one might not be aware the destruction that happened in 1915 as it's now covered with forests. St. Helen has recovered significantly since its eruption in 1980, but the devastation is still very apparent.
While at Lassen Volcanic we got to explore the beauty of the recovery and reminders to the destruction. We checked out some volcanic steam vents and a smelly bubbling mud pot which were similar to what's seen Yellowstone. The park also had some scenic lakes to check out. Our last hike on the last park of the road trip was around Lake Manzinita which offered great views of Mount Lassen.
