Since Grand Canyon was close to Zion we decided to make it our second stop of the road trip. We decided to go to the less visited, but closer, North Rim of the canyon. It was a higher elevation (8000 feet) and forested which made for a slightly different experience than the more popular South Rim. Our campsite offered a peak-a-boo view of the canyon, but the close by Visitor Center offered a full view of this natural wonder. Nearby, a section of the North Rim was experiencing wildfires. Fortunately they weren't close to camp and they were well managed. It was colder than Zion and we experienced thunderstorms in the afternoon and light rain at night.
We drove along Cape Royal Road stopping at various viewpoints of the canyon. Like Canyonlands it was impossible to take in the full view of the landscape. Looking out, down and around showed an endless collection of geologic formations.
Though the canyon offered incredible beauty, Jamie and I were ready to leave after two nights as we hadn't acclimated to the high elevation.
