After a few years absence we returned to Kalaloch for some more beach side camping. This time we stayed three nights which was a record for our family. We did all the usual activities including strolling the beach, flying kites, playing in the sand, enjoying meals by the campfire and watching the sunset. One day we took a short trip to the mossy Hoh Rain Forest which was abnormally dry due the year's hot and dry Summer. We also stopped at a big cedar tree which was very impressive despite that it had partially fallen during a strong storm a couple years back. Perhaps the most interesting part of the trip was seeing gray whales feed just off the shore. We saw one juvenile whale that had beached itself just before our arrival. Fortunately with some help it made it back in the ocean after being stuck on the beach for three days.
