On the hottest day in July we drove to Mount Rainier National Park and hiked to the Grove of the Patriarchs near the
Stevens Canyon entrance. I had avoided this short hike in the past, but it was a perfect hike to do with Rachel and stay out of the heat.
The grove consisted of several very large and very old trees on a small island in the Ohanapecoch River. A couple of the trees were 1000
years old. Rachel liked to walk along the boardwalk that made up the trail through the trees. After the grove we
headed up near Paradise for a picnic. Unfortunately, due to the crowds at Paradise we didn't get a chance to explore the
nearby flower trails.
