Green Mountain Hike (2001)

In July we made our second attempt to summit Green Mountain. Almost exactly a year before we tried to reach the top but had to turn around near the top due to snow. This time were were much luckier. It was a sunny day and due to a pathetic winter there was little snow to be found.

The trail to the summit is a beautiful one. It starts in a forest and winds through a steep grassy hillside. The trail passes a clear mountain pond and then switches back up a rocky slope populated by marmots. Finally, the trail follows a ridge to the summit where a fire lookout tower sits. The views from the top were incredible, including a close up view of Glacier Peak which I climbed two years prior. With 3,100 feet of elevation gain, the tail to the top is somewhat of a challenge, but I highly recommend it due to the varying terrain and great views.
