Glacier National Park Trip - Going to the Sun Road

West Side | Going to the Sun Road | East Side

After our night a Avalanche Creek Campground we got up early and quickly broke down camp once again so we could continue our journey across the park. We drove along the Going to the Sun Road which is the only road across the park and is considered one of the most beautiful drives in the country. The narrow road snaked across mountain cliff sides with beautiful views of mountains and waterfalls at every turn. We arrived at Logan Pass just before 10am and the visitor center parking lot was already full of cars competing for parking spaces. We were fortunate to find a space that had just been opened up by a ranger.

We first stopped at the visitor center where the girls got their Junior Ranger badges. After that we hiked up the Hidden Lake Lookout trail. Beside having great mountain views and beautiful wildflowers there were lots of animals to see from the trail. The girls enjoyed seeing marmots, ground squirrels, chipmunks and for their first time, mountain goats. Not surprisingly the trail ended with a lookout view of Hidden Lake. Though the lookout was nice this was definitely a case where the destination was bested by the journey itself.
