Summer Road Trip - Redwood Forest

Crater Lake | Redwood Coast | Redwood Forest | Oregon Coast

Our trip through the Redwood National/State Parks in northern California involved a couple short hikes, a few stops and lots of oohing and aahing from the car while driving Highway 101. The trees are amazingly tall with some over 300 feet high. On our first day we hiked to the Ladybird Jonhson Grove at the south end of the park. It was a nice loop trail through a forest of giant trees shrouded in fog. On our second day we drove Howland Hill Road to the Stout Grove. The drive involved a dirt road that weaved between the largest trees we had seen in the park. It was amazing how some of the trees dwarfed our car. Once at Stout Grove we went on another loop trail hike. The highlight of the hike was Stout Tree. It was over 20 feet wide, over 340 feet tall and 1500-2000 years old.
