Mailbox Peak Hike

Once Matt and I finally commited to doing Mount Stuart we decided to get in one more conditioner. Mailbox Peak was an good option due to it's extreme elevation gain and close proximity to home. With over 4000 feet gain in three miles the hike can almost be described as a climb, but there is a trail none the less. We started early and we met only two other groups coming down as we neared the top. We had the summit to ourselves and thanks to a clear day we could see all along the I-90 corridor and Seattle and Tacoma in the distance. As expected there was a mailbox at the top, but the second box I had seen previously in 2005 was gone. After a short rest we headed down and were surprised by the number of people coming up. It almost felt like the highway otherwise known as Mount Si. Once back to the car it was amazing to see the dozens of cars parked in the area. There were only two or three cars when we started. I'm glad we got in an early start as it would of sucked to be on the top with all those people.
