White Rvier Camping

For a third time in three months we returned to Mount Rainier to car camp at the White River Campground near Sunrsie. Sunset Magazine rated it as one of the top campgrounds in the Northwest and though it was nice we didn't quite agree. One problem was that a flood a few years back had destroyed some of the prime campsites along the river. Another problem was our small campsite was wedged between a busy road and a busy trail. We still had fun time and we got try out our new campstove and cookware. No more eating dehydrated soup from a backpacking stove. In the evening we enjoyed smores over a campfire and a beautiful star filled sky.

The next day we drove to Chinook Pass and had lunch at Tipsoo Lake. We walked along the trail around the small lake and took in the wonderful views of Rainier and surrounding meadows. Lily was so excited she demanded to be put down a hike the trail on her own.
