Olympic Peninsula Trip - Hurricane Ridge

Hurricane Ridge | Hoh Rainforest | Kalaloch

In July we went on a car camping trip through the Olympic Peninsula. Rachel's first camping trip last year had mixed results and we hoped to improved on it. This time we got Rachel her own sleeping bag so she wouldn't squirm all over the tent at night. The previous trip Rachel slept just fine, but Jamie and I got very little sleep. We also brought proper car camping supplies this time. Last year we ate a re-hydrated dinner huddled over a small camp stove with our headlamps.

We started with a ferry ride across the sound to Bainbridge Island and then we headed to Port Angeles and finallly to the Elwah Campground. Jamie was happy to have a much more "civilized" homemade meal off a duel burner stove. Rachel enjoyed the tent, but she didn't want to go to sleep once we got the campfire going, but we eventually got her to sleep so we could hoard the smores to ourselves.

The next day we drove up to Hurricane Ridge which has a great view of the northern Olympic mountian range. Off the ridge we took a short hike to Hurricane Hill which provided great views of the mountains and flower filled hillsides. I had done Hurricane Hill twice before, but in the winter as a snowshoe hike. Hiking it in the summer was much easier. I was the only one who fully enjoyed the hike, Rachel fell asleep and Jamie wasn't feeling well.
