Egypt Trip - Camels

Cairo Sights 1 | Cairo Sights 2 | Pyramids | Sharm el-Sheikh | Mount Sinai | St. Catherine's Monastery | Camels

How can one go Egypt without taking a camel ride? I attempted to avoid this activity, but gave in near the end our trip. Camel rides were offered just about everywhere - at the pyramids, on the beach and on the trail up Sinai. We settled for ride in the desert just outside Sharm el-Sheikh.

We went to a bedouin camp and first donned head scarves and drank tea while waiting for our camels. We then rode camels on a short loop in the desert with the sun setting behind the mountains. The camel ride wasn't bad, but it was very bumpy making it difficult to take pictures. Once we got off our camels we noticed our van had not returned. We went back to the bedouin camp and drank more tea and refused offers for dinner. It soon grew dark and we couldn't get a clear answer from the camel folks on when the van would return. After an hour of complaining the van finally returned. I'm not sure what kind of game the camel folks were playing with us, but we were very relieved to finally leave the camp.

"What do you mean I can't park my camel here!?!"
