Beat the Bridge

For our first race of the year we did the Beat the Bridge run at the University of Washington. This was Rachel's second run. She did the Dawg Dash last fall. The unique aspect of this 8k run is that about half way along the route the run crosses the University Bridge which opens at a set time during the race. Thus the goal is to run across the bridge before it opens. A lot of time is given to cross the bridge so only the slowest runners get caught. Luckily I didn't have any trouble crossing the bridge in time.

Rachel, Jamie and her parents did the 4-mile walk instead which stayed clear of the brige. Both the bridge and walk finished inside Husky Stadium. Once we were done Rachel got ready for her first race on her own, the 10 yard Diaper Derby. The competition was tight so unfortunately Rachel didn't win the race. Actually, she didn't even finish the race. She was more interested in crawling to the other babies than reaching the finish line. Oh well, next year she can try out for the walking division.
