Europe Trip 2003

Getting Around

Europe Map

While touring Europe we logged in over 200 miles by foot. Though walking was the preferred way to explore the sites we also spent a considerable amount of time on trains getting between cities and on subways to get across the cities. The train experience degraded as we got further and further east. We went from zipping through the Chunnel via first class in a TGV (France's high speed trains) to sitting on the floor of a crowded Italian train to Venice. Venice had neither cars nor trains (or roads for that matter) so we used Vaporettos, or water buses, to get around. Interestingly enough, we only rode once in a car and that was the taxi to the airport in Rome for our return home.
