Snow Lake Snowshoe Trip

Jamie's second snowshoe experience trip was to Snow Lake near Alpental. At the start, the leader said we might not need our snowshoes, he was wrong. Besides requiring snowshoes there were some steep icy areas that were more suitable for crampons. Still, Jamie got a chance to show off her newly honed ice axe skills.

After crossing a ridge we dropped down into a winter wonderland of deep snow with more snow coming heavily from the sky. We reached the snow covered lake which blended in with the rest of the white scenery. We took a break and then headed back. Our leader decided to try a different route back via Source Lake which was a mistake. Many fingers of streams led from the Lake creating watery obstacles between us and our way back. It made for a frustrating maze of deep snow that was cut through by the streams. We had to do various stream crossings and one significant stream leap. Unfortunately, we ran out film and were unable to capture some of the more interesting crossings. You will just have to talk with Jamie and hear the choice words she has for the experience.
